I'm not Chinese. I'm just Malaysian.

After reading the article (which I have pasted below), I felt that my wish as a Malaysian has been spoken. We have to come together to think us as Malaysians, but not just Malay, Chinese or Indian or Iban or etc. We're Malaysians.

I wish we don't have to be told that we are One Malaysia. We have always been One, no?

I wish we do not have to write down our races when filling up forms.

I wish we do not have Bumiputera rights but just Malaysian rights.

I wish we all live as Malaysians, living up the spirits of Malaysia being Truly Asia.

Read the article below, written by Sharyn, Tunku Abdul Rahman's great granddaughter. Some of you may have stumbled on this article on Facebook.

Appreciate Malaysia. We're here for a reason for each other. Let's not talk bad but just the good of one another.

**************************************

Sharyn Lisa Shufiyan, 24, Conservationist

Both my parents are Malay. My mum's heritage includes Chinese, Thai and Arab, while my dad is Minangkabau. Due to my skin colour, I am often mistaken for a Chinese.

I'm happy that I don't have the typical Malay look but I do get annoyed when people call me Ah Moi or ask me straight up "Are you Chinese or Malay"

Like, why does it matter? Before I used to answer "Malay" but now I'm trying to consciously answer Malaysian instead.

There's this incident from primary school that I remember till today. Someone told me that I will be called last during Judgement Day because I don't have a Muslim name. Of course, I was scared then but now that I'm older, I realise that a name is just a name. It doesn't define you as a good or bad person and there is definitely no such thing as a Muslim name. You can be named Rashid or Ali and still be a Christian.

I've heard of the 1Malaysia concept, but I think we don't need to be told to be united. We've come such a long way that it should already be embedded in our hearts and minds that we are united. Unfortunately, you can still see racial discrimination and polarisation. There is still this ethno-centric view that the Malays are the dominant group and their rights must be protected, and non Malays are forever the outsiders.

For the concept to succeed, I think the government should stop with the race politics. It's tiring, really. We grew up with application forms asking us to tick our race. We should stop painting a negative image of the other races, stop thinking about 'us' and 'them' and focus on 'we', 'our' and 'Malaysians'.

No one should be made uncomfortable in their own home. A dear Chinese friend of mine said to me once, "I don't feel patriotic because I am not made to feel like Malaysia is my home, and I don't feel an affinity to China because I have never lived there.

I know some baby Nyonya friends who can trace their lineage back hundreds of years. I'm a fourth generation Malaysian. If I am Bumiputra, why can't they be, too? Clearly I have issues with the term.

I think the main reason why we still can't achieve total unity is because of this 'Malay rights' concept. I'd rather 'Malay rights' be replaced by human rights. So unless we get rid of this Bumiputra status, or reform our views and policies on rights, we will never achieve unity.

For my merdeka wish, I'd like for Malaysians to have more voice, to be respected and heard. I wish that the government would uphold the true essence of parliamentary democracy. I wish for the people to no longer fear and discriminate against each other, to see that we are one and the same.

I wish that Malaysia would truly live up to the tourism spin of Malaysia truly Asia. Malaysians to lead - whatever their ethnic background. Only ONE NATIONALITY MALAYSIAN. No Malays, No Chinese, No Indians - ONLY MALAYSIANS. Choose whatever religion one is comfortable with.

MERDEKA

Thank you, Sharyn. You have spoken for all of us. We're all very proud of you :)

Happy Birthday, Malaysia!

Surprise Buka Puasa

One morning, as I was driving to work, I heard something on the radio and I had a piffany!

you know Papa Simpson said "piffany!" in the Simpson Movie right?

OK ANYWAY

So, I tried sms'ing in. Asking if they could come over to surprise my students!

So guess who came??????

It's JJ & Ean with the cruisers from Hitz.FM !!!!!!!!

My students were indeed VERY surprised!

They played games and had some photography session before the buka puasa

While they are as naughty as ever, what you hear (on air) is exactly what you get, even in person

They were tickling me from behind when taking photos. So so cheeky!

These are my international students from Persia. Very good boys. Yes, they are brothers!

Buka Puasa time!

The students learned so much first hand information from the pros themselves. So proud of them!

It was not just a surprise arranged for the students but also a good learning experience for them. It was up close and personal :)

Being Personal

I am sitting in KLIA as I am writing this. I bought a good GCB Meal at McD, sat in a quiet corner so I can charge my phone while I eat and type away.

A woman came by and asked if she can talk to me. I was just about to look at her when she pulled the chair and was trying to sit down opposite me.

Hey, who do you think you are to barge into my privacy like that? Did I say "yes the seat is free and you can sit"?

Worst thing was, she was holding a file, trying to sell me something.

She was about to start talking right after sitting down when I told her off!

"Please do not disturb me."

She said "ok, you are busy? I am just trying to show you ... " while showing pages of paper in her file.

I said a firm "NO. Not interested. I am busy."

She said "ok, don't angry...I am not a bad person...." bla bla bla

I looked at my iPhone and typed away as I replied emails and messages in my mailbox.

Well, my point is, I didn't say you can speak and I didn't ask you to sit down and I didn't say I am willing to listen to you. You didn't even wait for me to agree that you can sit at my table.

Do I NOT have a reason to be angry?

Puhhhleeeaaassseeee .....

On another note....
Going up North this weekend! Am looking forward to indulge myself with loads of good food!

See ya!

Angsana Spa@ Crown Hotel

Had a really relaxing time at the spa on Saturday.

It was a one of the birthday gifts for my man. He said he enjoyed it :) that's most important.

We both gave the ambience a top scorer. But the massage could have been better. It was too soothing for us. I slept the moment I lied down on the bed. :P

Yes, it was THAT soothing.

Both of us were stressed at work in the past weeks. So, we were looking forward to more of a muscle-massage. We asked the messieurs to focus more on the neck and shoulder muscles but we feel nothing. =/

We love the environment and service of the spa. No doubt about that.

We look forward to another spa session by RedRibbon Days. Hopefully that would be a good one :)

It was a moment when I thought about us. Just both of us.

Our journey. Our future.

I thought it was just amazing. They way we first met and how we got together. I smiled at how God had planned a journey like that for both of us. It was weird, funny and yet just a matter of fate.

I told a friend how, sometimes when we meet someone and thought straight away that "this is The One". It is when you feel so comfortable, secure and the moment was just right. Everything fell into place just the way it should be. Timing is important.

That was when I thought to myself that Tom Cruise wasn't faking it when he told the world he is so crazily in love with someone so amazing.

Remember Katie Holmes? :)

He was so happy that he jumped on the sofa at Oprah Winfrey's talk show. Everyone was so amazed.

He looked really happy and excited.

In fact, he said he was so excited he wanted to shout out to the whole wide world that he is in fact marrying this beautiful person.

I remember asking my mother if he was just acting? He's a bloody good actor after all, right? My mother nodded and smiled. Maybe, she said.

Looking back, I thought he make sense. I felt that way three years ago.

I did.

I am dating a bloody good guy who would look out for me. My mother loves him like her newborn son. My sisters find him the coolest person to chill with. And most importantly, we both love each other's families like our own.

I looked back at all the beautiful photos we took during our holidays, random pictures around town and some with our friends. I always smile. Because we can be so crazy when we're alone sometimes. :)

I told my friend that if we marry a good son, most of the time, we can never be wrong. Family values are very important. A person who would do anything not to hurt his family, won't turn out to be any worst of a person, isn't it?

We're both still on the road to discovery. There's so much more for us in future. A lot to learn from each other. And most importantly, he accept me for who I am, which is what we always look into in a partner. I believe that we don't criticize each other if we want to have a journey together. Because we can never change a person. Never can and never would.

p/s: sorry for being so cheesy today. I just have to get this out of my head. :)

Smiles

I went for a really good lunch with my colleagues at Wendy's last Friday. We laughed and cracked jokes to entertain one another. It's fun! We should do this once in a while. The smile therapy definitely works to lift off the stress over our shoulders once in a while.

Or maybe a trip to the beach would do justice. Just sitting there, gaze out to the horizon, listening to the sound of waves hitting the beach, children laughing, happy couple flying a cute kite in the shape of a ship (hahahaha ... so funny when I saw the kite in the shape of a ship ... ok this is an inside joke, it's ok if you're not laughing :P) and the ultimate would be a massage at the gazebo by the beach.

Ok sorry to be distracted, I know I do this quite often. But it's a blog ... you're not suppose to have "introduction, body and conclusion". Right? Hahahahahaha

Anyway, I came back from lunch last Friday to find this on my table.

with a note. Luckily it says from Hannah and not Hafiz or Hanif or John or Jake. Hey Jake's a nice name ... it popped into my mind all of a sudden. Hahahaha probably because my friend's nephew's name is Jake. Nice name.

Anyway, luckily it says Hannah and not Jake because I'll be in trouble! :)

By the way, of course, thank you Hannah ... even thought I don't know which is you. Please introduce yourself and let me thank you personally. I'm still puzzled as to ... why the sudden gift?

*ponders hard*

The PC Fair was on last weekend. As usual, we went there to scout for stuff. Darling nearly bought another electronic item. Guys are really into these stuff like girls are glued to the four letter word "S. A. L. E."

Or, the theory of the "retail therapy".

Amazing. :)

We were halfway through our journey from hall to hall, and saw this!

Yep, Karen's the spokesperson for Audio-Technica. The banner was so huge and she looks so pretty!

Anyway, Karen's back for a short trip in Malaysia. So, I brought her to Marmalade. My favourite place whenever I opt for healthy food.

Karen is famous for her beautiful voice as well as staying fit and looking good by eating healthily. So, I thought she MUST try out the food at Marmalade.

A blogger is a blogger that blogs about things and especially food. :P

She's still the humble, nice and sweet Karen I knew since years ago. It's amazing to see how some people react to fame while some just thought that it's an extra blessing. She thank God everyday for the gift of her beautiful voice, talent and many other good things in life.

I have so much to learn from her. :)

Check out Karen's blog here!

This morning, after a really good night's sleep (thank you God), I woke up with a smile. Sleep is really important. I have learned to never take it for granted anymore.

A few girls (and a guy) walked into the staffroom today carrying boxes of Éclairs.

They were raising funds for the After-Convocation Ball for the College.

My colleague, Hardip, bought one box, and I decided to share with him. But later realised that the Eclairs were so good I bought another box! Will share with the rest of the people. It's for charity anyway :)

Have a wacky Wednesday, people!

Sometimes it's not just about what you want. It's about what others seek for in you. That's why people say it takes two hands to clap.

I need some sleep. A lot of sleep. I'm feeling sickly. FML max.

Ultimate Entertainment

It was this weekend when I didn't visit his place. Thus, didn't get to see the little baby.

So, one of the weekdays after that, he suggested a webcam session.

And he was carrying the little one!!! :)

She is so so adorable.

*note to audience: please ignore my face*

Yes, I look like a total nerd when I have my specs on.

Last night, I didn't sleep until 5am. I now know how does it feels like to have insomnia. I vow to think less and sleep tonight.

Please let me sleep soundly.

El Cerdo's

I was thinking for the longest time ever to bring Darling for meal at Elcerdo, Werner's place.

You see, we both love pork. I don't think we can ever avoid more than two meals without a touch of pork, ever.

Especially Darling, whose favourite is the suckling pig.

So, on his birthday, I thought, hey, why not? Because I have heard how yummy is their suckling pig!

Elcerdo is situated at Changkat Bukit Bintang, just behind my place. It's so convenient to get there after work despite the crazy traffic!!!

Plus plus plus!!! The website has this cute piggies!!!!!!!

Cute right?

And then I remember this thing from The Simpson's ...

Spider-pig, Spider pig ....

Remember this?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

:D

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Oh man ... I have to re-watch this movie again. It's hilarious!

Anyway, ok, sorry to get distracted. But don't you love that movie!!!!!! Anyone who said you don't like that movie should just skip this blog now.

Okok, I'm just joking. You know I love you.

So, after work that day, I went to One Utama to get the sparkling candles. It is like the nicest candles you can find. At first I wanted to buy the spoof candle that can never blow out ... you know, to play a prank. But it was so much more expensive *cheapskate* and the sparkle ones would look so much better on the special Werner's dessert I have ordered.

Then, I drove to Elcerdo before going home to talk to the manager, Max, and passed him the candles.

We went to Elcerdo later that night and I knew I would love the place as soon as I walk in. The ambience was superbly comfy.

Plus, the waitress gave me a stool for my bag.

Love!!!! I believe all restaurants should have this. Save us women all the trouble okayy.

I was very happy like it was my birthday.

Haha

Then, we went on and ordered the entree: Jamon platter

And then, saw something interesting over the next table and ordered Darling's favourite Suckling Pig. :)

So the suckling pig came and there was this ritual.

The waiter was there to explain how pigs symbolise wealth and luck to the Spanish people.

So, the ritual starts by using the plate, knock on the tray 3 times.

And then, you use the plate to chop off at the neck and the tail, which is the softest part of the piggy.

He did it!

And them, you're suppose to make a wish and throw the plate into this wooden bucket!

The waiter reminded Darling that he can only make ONE wish. Cannot be greedy.

See~!

So the suckling pig came back afterward nicely chopped and served with side dishes.

We were so full... up to our necks!

Then, Darling wanted to have the bill.

I said "NO, I want dessert."

So, he asked for the dessert menu.

I, on the other hand, was waiting anxiously for them to bring out the dessert before he order another dessert! I'm already very full!

Anyway, they were taking some time with the decorations. Darling ordered the vanilla ice-cream.

After a while... actually quite a long while as it seems...about 5 of the waiters came out singing the special Elcerdo's birthday song! It was hilarious! Very very cute!

Happy birthday to you, OINK OINK, Happy birthday to you, OINK OINK, Happy birthday happy birthday ............ Happy birthday to you, OINK OINK!!!!

Wahahahahahahahahaha

I was laughing away when Darling's face was in shock and -_______-!!!! when he heard the "OINK OINK" part.

Hahahahahahhaahhahahahaha

Anyway, it's fun. :)

Ain't the dessert pretty!!! Got pig one!!!

But I was a little disappointed with the candles. It is suppose to have sparkles!!!! (I think cheap things are like that lah kena tipu already fml)

He blew the candles with a smile on his face afterward :)

I'm satisfied. That's all I want.

The waiter later came and told us that Darling can have the little wooden pig placed on his dessert as it symbolise good luck.

Then, the served us a complimentary digestive drink.

He was mentioning that the drink is a concoction of a few things like bla bla bla... Martini... bla bla bla, lemon.

-_____-!!!

It was so so yummy!

We cheered for the night and for the rest of the year. :)

And Darling came to my house to collect his bag, I saw a HUGEASS cockroach on the wall near to the ceiling. I told him to make sure he chase the cockroach away before he goes home.

Then, I scuffled to the kitchen to wash some stuff when I heard "BONG"

I went into the room and saw Darling rubbing his head. His forehead was a little swollen. :(

I asked him "Why did you use your head to chase the cockroach away?"

Ya lah I know I asked the wrong question la but you know I wanted to make him smile a little and he did so ok lah!

He accidentally knocked on the wall when he was really concentrating on the cockroach.

Anyway, he's feeling so much better now.

Happy Friday everyone!!!

Celebrations

Sorry for the lack of posts. I do have a lot of photos to update!

We had a fun yet intimate moment at El Cerdo, the Spanish restaurant at Changkat Bukit Bintang, celebrating Darling's birthday! It was so so funny when they sang a piggy birthday song for him :) apparently, pigs symbolises good luck!

I have a new project in hand at work. I am looking very much forward to see it into realisation. :)

Darling's niece just learned how to turn her body last week! It was so exciting :)

I am having bad stomach cramps as I am typing now. It really sucks but life has to go on. I have to sleep now. Good nights world :)

P/s: this wraps up my first post from my iPhone! Yes, after so long :)

You and Me, Darling ... Happy Big 25 :)

Taking a trip down memory lane
Things have changed
One thing remains
That they will always have each other

And even though those days have gone
They know here is where they belong
There's some kinda magic in the air
Feel the warmth
That only summer breezes can bring
Sweet little notes of spring begin
Nothing to fear

Taking one step at a time
Walking hand in hand
1 2 3 4
Cheek to cheek
And they're learning
How to do that dance
Let this love be forevermore they say
I wish for this
To be true for you and me

Holding her close
He leading the way
Out at the park
Enjoying the day
And you can tell they'll be ok
Feel the warmth
That only summer breezes can bring
Sweet little notes of spring begin
Nothing to fear

Taking one step at a time
Walking hand in hand
1 2 3 4
Cheek to cheek
And they're learning
How to do that dance
Let this love be forevermore they say
I wish for this
To be true for you and me

Taking one step at a time
Walking hand in hand
1 2 3 4
Cheek to cheek
And they're learning
How to do that dance
Let this love be forevermore they say
I wish for this
To be true for you and me

To be true for you and me

To be true for you and me

You and me

You and me

Happy big 25, Darling! :)
