Shanghai World Expo

Here are some of the photos I took from the Shanghai World Expo!

1) Italy Pavilion

I know this picture is not in the correct position but look how pretty are the carvings!

I think they must be so proud of their sofa or something ... these people were kept in a fish tank and we get to watch them making sofa live! Wohoo!! (wth)

When you think Italy, you'll think fashion (obviously, for me). The above dress was Prada. ;)

Women can never get enough of shoes. And when it is made into art, who could ever resist them??? Tell me tell me!!!

I love it so much I just had to take a photo with it even though Darling was grumbling because he was hungry or something *sayang sayang*

Of course, after that I had to apologize to him-lah you know...fashion always kinda threw me off being sane for a bit.

Orchestra playing from a wall!

And loads of other Italian designers showing off their garments on the wall :)

And of course, you can never get away with Italy without pasta :) In the picture above, you'll see walls of pasta and beds of flowers from the ceiling!

Walls of pasta and the story of its origins.

2) German Pavilion

After feeling guilty for being a bit off in the Italy Pavilion, I apologized and was later thrown in a drastic gastric situation (because too excited about fashion I forgot we didn't have lunch until coming out from the Italy Pavilion and felt superb hungry).

So, we went to the German Pavilion for lunch!

The chicken above was superb.

The hotdogs (of course, what is Germany without their superb hotdogs?) were superb too!

And the bill was amazingly superb too!!!!! I think we can eat for 2 meals at the German place we always go in Pavilion. :P

3) Because the Shanghai World Expo covers 4 huge areas in Pudong and Puxi, they have buses to shuttle people around between areas.

But the most admiring thing about these buses is that they are superbly eco-friendly! They run not on batteries but some electricity or solar energy ... whatever I'm not Scientific. But YES, they don't produce smokes and fumes that pollutes the environment! At least, they do not make me smell whenever I walk pass the buses!

See, this one below was charging!

See this satellite-looking-thing up there? That's the charger. OK you should never quote me on this because I didn't look up Google what are their correct terminologies.

4) China Pavilion

One of the tallest looking pavilion and you need to pre-book tickets to get in. If not, don't even think about lining up. Some line up for about 3 hours just to get into the pavilion WITH a pre-book ticket. WTH is this? I thought lining up for 2 hours at the Switzerland Pavilion was long enough! :P

5) Coke Pavilion

Well, they promise a lot of fun in this pavilion, and yes, we had loads of fun! :)

We bought special edition/limited edition cokes from their special vending machines too! Very canggih one the vending machine can even talk and also has computerized screens. :)

Each of us also get this special small bottle of coke and were taught how to drink coke the right way.

The correct temperature to drink coke is actually at -2 celcius! Awesome ...

6) Since I've lived here before, I was also very excited to visit the Spain Pavilion. :)

Witnessed the very sexy Flamenco Dance in the Spain Pavilion and was bringing me back to really good fond memories. :)

7) Saudi Arabia Pavilion

This pavilion causes a whole lot of drama. The line was as long/or even longer than the Japan or Switzerland Pavilion. Guess what? Because they give out one tiny diamond to a lucky visitor every single day. wth.

We didn't bother lining up for this pavilion because we had other pavilions in mind to visit. Somemore, 3 days in the Expo didn't really give us much time to visit most of them! Well, if I'm at least 60 years old, I would have finished visiting all of them in one day.

I was so .. ..... grrrrr.... when I heard a conversation between 2 elderly-looking women:

Old woman 1: Wow where have you been? Now only I see you!
Old woman 2: Oh, just need to go for a toilet break! So how many (pavilions) have you seen?
Old woman 1: Oh I'm done! Finished all the pavilions already!
Old woman 2: Oh wow I have a few more left! So fast right? No more pavilions to go ...

And they only spend 1 day.

Because each pavilion has an Express Green Lane or the elderly or in wheelchairs.

And you know what? Some people thought it's very funny but sometimes I think they're really smart to play around with the rules ... they went to buy a wheelchair to "act" like one of them has to be in a wheelchair. So, they didnt' have to line up!

Swear to God! I saw them walking even faster than me after getting up from the wheelchair outside the toilet ok!

8) Korea Pavilion
It seems interesting to get into this one... but sadly, we didn't have time. We didn't even get to visit the Taiwan Pavilion! But we did visit the Japan Pavilion! :)

9) Seriously, do you know this country/republic exist?

10) Theme Pavilion

We didn't go into this one either ... because it looks not interesting from the outside. :/

11) Asian Pavilions!

This is the amazing Thailand.

We had so much fun in the Pavilion. At one point, we were all ushered into a theater and was experiencing 4D when we get to smell what was played on screen! Even got rain water splashing on our faces lor! :)

Philippines Pavilion

Australia Pavilion

Malaysia Pavilion!!!

I told Darling, for the first time, I felt a little home sick while holidaying. No, not that he's not a good company on a holiday... it's because Chinese people are just so annoying! They are not hospitable people like that and I was developing this love-hate relationship with China.

You know I love Hong Kong like A LOT. The city is incredibly amazing even though their spaces are so limited ... but just fantastic. I didn't even want to go home!

But with China, everything we have here, I'll see it there. Seriously, is there anything special in China besides the smelly toilets, ok, maybe food ... and annoying people who spit on my leg? I mean c'mon, who spits on other people's leg? And even after telling them off, they IGNORE you. How rude is that?

No doubt, the city is developing so fast. Too fast that the people finds it so hard to catch up. The history is so thick and I was kept amazed by its architecture and how they build those things that existed like thousands of years ago.

So you know, I dislike China in some ways, but I love China in other ways ... only because I haven't seen some of its beautiful scenery, mountains and lakes ... the Great Wall of China and Hong Kong is partly China, thus I can't hate China that much.

I told Darling I might be reluctant to go back to China on certain circumstances ... but I will go back for other reasons, like the beautiful Huangshan, or maybe just to see Great Wall of China with my bare eyes. So, darling said, to solve my problem with the Great Wall of China, he'll just let me see a video or picture of the Great Wall.

-_________-!!!!!!

I told him it has to be at least 3D.

Haha :)
So, when I saw the Malaysian Pavilion! I was so proud to be Malaysian Chinese!

We heard many good things while lining up at the Malaysian Pavilion. The Hong Kee commented they love our huge variety of food, very authentic and rich taste in our different delicacies ... and ya, that's about it.

But still!!!!! Both Darling and I just turned to each other and smile. Deep down, we were indeed... very proud and happy to hear that :)

Singapore Pavilion

I love the design of this pavilion. It was said to be inspired by the music box or something? Correct me if I'm wrong. They had like theaters which played us songs by Singaporean singers and we could jump to the music beats or something... I didn't play lah.

12) Holland Pavilion

Finally, I took pictures with a (small) bed of tulips :)

Besides, white roses and lilies, tulips are my favourite flowers too :)

13) UK Pavilion

We were the few lucky ones to be able to enter the UK Pavilion right before it was closed. So, we didn't have to line up! And we get to admire the beauty of its lights!

Trust me, the whole organismic design of the UK Pavilion was glowing at night. It was so so beautiful.

This was when we get to enter inside the body of the organism to make sure that it is real and functions properly. wth :P

Couldn't really capture how it was glowing ... but seriously, this is one of the pavilions that has the best designs ever!

A lot of people were there, sitting down on the beautiful grass compound of the pavilion, admiring its beauty. Some with their hi-tech camera were clicking away, a few went nearer to see what was it made off (seriously, it was flowing plastic or whatsoever it was just brilliant design!!!), some just laid on the grass and smile. Under the chilly weather we had that night (19 celcius to be exact), it was just a perfect moment.

We are very lucky.

Despite all the complains that I do occasionally in my posts, I always remind myself that I am a very lucky girl. We are the very blessed lot of people around.

And thank you, Darling for making this come true. It was another very beautiful birthday gift.

As I always say, you never fail to amaze me in many different ways. :)

XOXO,
theRascal
