The firs time I heard about this supposedly fabulous "wantan mee" just outside my condominium was from Beanie. He said he had never tried them before but also heard that it is not bad... but the wait of order is very long.
And then my mother & sisters are here throughout the school holidays (weeeee!), so my dad had all this energy to eat at 10.30pm.
YES! The stall only opens at 10.30pm.
Thus, I'll put at as specialty Number One : opens late
The first time, it was only my dad & 2 younger sisters who decided to tag along. They came back 1.5 hour later saying that the wait was verryyyy long but eating only took them 10 - 15 minutes max.
Specialty Number Two: wait looooong, short eating period.
So, you get the uummpphhh that you have to sit there until the noodles comes no matter what since waited to long already!
Then 2 weeks ago (I think), my sister came down from Singapore and my dad had this sudden urge to have the special noodle again. But this time, apart from just my younger sisters, my mom and I decided to tag along!
Specialty Number Three: curiosity of what is good in the noodle
Because a lot of people came back telling you that it is nice/notbad/quite okay, and they waited for a long time... those who are curious would want to try! Or maybe, ask someone to take away for them :P
So when we all arrive at the stall, I saw people already waiting. One younger looking guy was taking down orders, an aunty still setting up the cooking area and a much older uncle also setting up the cooking area.
Then, my sister told me that the uncle is very particular in how the noodle is cooked, the thickness of the meat and even how it is being situated in the noodle!
Specialty Number four: uncle cooking with all his heart.
So, let's say the aunty put the meat in the middle of the noodle bowl (aunty sometimes want to just do it for uncle because the uncle takes some time in putting everything in place), the uncle will take out the meat and do it all over again.
AUNTY STOP HELPING HIM AND JUST DO YOUR PART!!! ... which is making/preparing the wantan. -___-
Indeed, we waited for a veryyyy loooooooooong time. Maybe about an hour or so. We chat about all the things in the world, under the sun, deep in the sea and what is under our armpits. wtf.
Specialty Number Five: great bonding time for customers. Unless you went with the wrong clique/group of people, sorry lah you may end up with a long silence in between because you chat until no topic left to chat already.
After about 45 minutes... or maybe an hour? Our bowl of noodles came!!!
I took a picture (responsible blogger wth) and quickly took my first mouthful.
Specialty Number Six: you waited too long until not nice also will say nice
Haha!
OK la OK la it is not bad but not like extraaaaa nice.
My opinion is, it is worth the wait if you're curious yourself why so many people are waiting for this special uncle and his special wantan noodle. It is worth the wait if you have loads of time to spare and needed a place to chill out/chat with your friends.
BUT if you're looking for something REALLY nice to eat but have no time to spare, forget it.
XOXO,
